Ecobank Foundation donates US$ 750,000 to the Ministry of Health in Mozambique to combat malaria.
The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria invited the Ecobank Foundation to visit anti-malaria projects in Mozambique in early February. Goal of the trip was to witness first-hand how with the help of Global Fund’s private sector partners, Mozambique is taking important steps in its journey towards becoming a malaria free country.
The Ecobank Foundation has donated US$ 750,000 to the Global Fund towards malaria projects in Mozambique. The contribution will support a net distribution campaign, improve essential malaria treatment and increase testing opportunities.
Through the UK’s Department for International Development’s matching scheme, which pledges US$2 for every US$1 committed by the private sector, the total amount will reach US$2.25 million.
“Mozambique has made great progress in the fight against malaria,” said Julie Essiam, CEO of the Ecobank Foundation. “With this financial contribution, we are a step closer to improving the lives of children, families and whole communities.”
During the visit the private sector partners also discussed how to further improve their collaboration and maximise the impact of their work across the rest of the continent.
