As part of the bank’s commitment to promote sustainability and environmental causes, Ecobank Nigeria embarked on a series of targeted CSR projects in December.

One of the bank’s key projects was the renovation of the Agbala Paediatric Centre in Ikorodu, a city located in the south of the country. Founded in 1956, the children’s centre is a strategic health facility for residents in Ikorodu.

Charles Kie, Managing Director of Ecobank Nigeria stated that the motivation to improve and furnish Agbala aligned with Ecobank’s ambitions to contribute to Africa’s development.

“Ecobank is responsible and caring, working to assist the underprivileged. We encourage excellence among Africans, especially our young people, who are the future of our continent.”

Ecobank Nigeria’s passion for helping future generations shone through in other sustainability projects. The bank planted trees across 14 states and launched a scheme that rewards people for picking up used cans and plastic bottles. ‘Operation 150,000 bottles and cans’ protects the environment while it empowers the young and unemployed.

Mrs Sedoten Agosa-Anikwe, Chief Scientific Officer at the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency had kind words for the initiative: “This is an organisation that is thinking out of the box. A bank that is effectively contributing to the society where it operates.”
