Our 2024 Annual Report provides details of our health, education and women’s and girls’ empowerment activities conducted during the year to improve the lives of African communities.
Our highlights in 2024 include:
Fighting malaria through collective action
We concluded our four-year Zero Malaria Businesses Leadership Initiative which mobilised the private sector to help prevent malaria. In addition to $1 million donated by the Foundation, the initiative raised $5.9 million most of which was in-kind for use in Benin, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Senegal and Uganda.
Supporting children’s learning with technology
Ecobank Day 2024 concentrated on harnessing Artificial Intelligence to enhance children’s foundational skills in literacy, maths and digital skills. Ecobank donated about $750,000 to schools to support IT and digital facilities; and our pan-African “AI in the Classroom: What Does It Mean for Our Children?” webinar brought together over 2,000 participants.
Standing with women and girls
Many of our 2024 activities focused on supporting women and girls. These included a webinar to broadcast the importance of investing in women; and a Fireside Chat in support of UN Women’s 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign emphasised the private sector’s role in advancing gender equality, driving economic growth and promoting sustainable social development.
Expanding access to life-saving care
In Togo, we began construction of a new Nephrology and Hemodialysis unit at Kara University Hospital. This facility will provide treatment for the urgent needs of patients suffering from renal failure in several regions of Togo. The Foundation donated $500,000 for the $850,000 project in 2023.
As always, our activities were made possible by the amazing support of all Ecobankers and the vital input of our tremendous partners: Do Well Do Good; The Global Partnership for Education; Speak Up Africa; United Nations Development Programme; UNITLIFE; and UN Women. We thank all of them so much.
