Ecobank Day 2024 helps to ‘Ignite Learning with AI’

October 19, 2024

2024 Ecobank Day on 19 October saw Ecobankers across Africa take part in activities focused on how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be harnessed to support children's foundational learning and boost basic skills in literacy, numeracy and digital literacy.

It marked the second year of Ecobank’s three-year ‘Transforming Africa Through Education’ campaign and resulted in 10,000 children receiving awareness training on AI and the donation of US$750,000 of digital equipment by Ecobank.

Many Ecobankers became ‘Reading Heroes’ to inspire children to develop a lifelong reading habit by joining reading groups; and Ecobank held a pan-African webinar ‘AI in the classroom: What does it mean for our children?’.

Jeremy Awori, CEO, Ecobank Group said: “Africa’s children are the future of our continent. We are intent on helping them to acquire the foundational learning skills that they will need to excel in the job markets of tomorrow and contribute meaningfully to their communities. The power of Artificial Intelligence and digital tools will accelerate their learning, help them gain the ability and passion for reading, and become both numerate and digitally savvy. AI is not just a buzzword – it can be leveraged to transform education on our continent.”
