Some of Africa’s orphanages are often underfunded under resourced. Making time for children with care and compassion is a duty close to our hearts. We did so by getting fully involved in the activities on Ecobank Day on Saturday the 17th of November under the theme ‘Support for Orphanages in Africa.’

Ecobank Day is an internal initiative where the Ecobank Group’s employees and management have a community day through volunteering. Many different activities took place in 33 countries across Africa where Ecobank has operations. A few highlights are listed below.

In Togo, a fair was held for the orphans at the Orphanage SOS Village d’Enfants and this included entertainment, water fun and delicious food. The orphanage was provided with US$15,000 of computer equipment, while Ecobankers helped clean the site. Group CEO Ade Ayeyemi also helped lay the foundation of a new waterhole.

Physically and mentally disabled children at the Songa Mbele na Masomo education centre in Kenya enjoyed the company of Ecobankers and were given therapy seats, standing aids and sanitary equipment.

Ecobankers provided food hampers, new school uniforms and two new water tanks for orphans in Zimbabwe. During Ecobank Day, Ecobank Zimbabwe extended academic support to 19 new pupils increasing the number of full scholarships that it provides to 29.

The intention is for financial support for orphanages generated by Ecobank and its staff to be ongoing,

Many affiliates also launched sponsorship initiatives and generated unique QR codes for donations for greater ongoing support to orphans in Africa.
