The Ecobank Foundation hosted a webinar featuring young women entrepreneurs sharing their experience and insight on women’s empowerment in business.
To commemorate 2022 International Women’s Day, we launched a series of webinars called ‘Break the Bias’ in March 2022, with the objective to support and encourage empowerment for women and girls everywhere throughout the year.
The first webinar showcased young women entrepreneurs working in sustainable agri-industry – all giving their personal insight on female empowerment in the sector. The speakers were:
• Mariam Lawani (Nigerian; founder of Greenhill Recycling) is an environmental microbiologist, who has a decade’s experience in the education sector and has co-trained some of the best of Nigeria’s future change agents.
• Maureen Muketha (Kenyan; founder of non-profit Tule Vyema) aims to abolish hunger, food insecurity and gender inequality. She concentrates on one local community at a time through nutritional education, sack farming and female empowerment. Her organisation has already helped 800 households obtain food security.
• Siny Samba (Senegalese; agri-food engineer) co-founded the company Le Lionceau in Dakar, which offers organic baby food ‘made in Senegal’ thanks to partnerships with women smallholder farmers.
