16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence

December 10, 2025

Ecobank Foundation reaffirms its commitment to ending Gender-Based Violence during the 2025 16 Days of Activism.

As the world marks the 2025 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (25 November – 10 December), the Ecobank Foundation reaffirmed its long-standing commitment to protecting the rights, dignity, and wellbeing of women and girls across the continent. Gender-based violence remains one of the most pervasive human rights violations worldwide, touching communities of every background. The 16 Days campaign serves as a powerful reminder that preventing and ending violence is not only necessary but achievable through collective awareness, responsibility, and action.

This year’s global theme, “UNiTE to End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls,” underscores the fast-growing need to ensure safety in digital spaces. As our personal and professional lives increasingly rely on technology, harmful behaviours such as online harassment, cyber-stalking, misinformation, and the misuse of personal images affect women and girls at alarming rates.

Tackling these challenges requires greater digital literacy, stronger protection mechanisms, and a commitment to respectful online engagement.

The 16 Days of Activism campaign also invited all of us to reflect, learn, and get involved. Those who wished to get involved were encouraged to support local initiatives dedicated to protecting and assisting women and girls, whether through awareness efforts, community-based organisations or shelters supporting survivors.

Raising awareness on social platforms, encouraging respectful digital behaviour, and participating in community discussions are also meaningful ways to contribute.

This year also reflects the Ecobank Foundation’s continued engagement in the fight against GBV. In partnership with UN Women and African activists and experts, we have hosted a series of thematic webinars that have reached nearly 2,000 participants since 2022. These conversations strengthen our understanding, spark dialogue, and equip our teams to foster safer, more inclusive environments.

By supporting this global movement, we reaffirmed our commitment to building a world, online and offline, where every woman and girl can live free from violence.

To conclude this mobilisation, we are sharing images of our leadership and teams across our pan-African network dressed in orange, a symbol of solidarity and hope.

Their engagement reminds us that awareness continues well beyond the 16 days.
