Meet Jacob Yuoth. The civil war in his country South Sudan made Jacob a refugee. But rather than sitting around and waiting for the violence to end, he started a new life in Uganda.
To mark World Refugee Day, Ecobank Foundation is putting the spotlight on people like Jacob Yuoth, who are succeeding against the odds. Ecobank is one of the UN Refugee Agency donors who have helped refugees re-shape their lives in a new country.
Ecobank Group CEO, Ade Ayeyemi said, “Every institution in the society has to heed the call to help the vulnerable. Through our Ecobank Foundation, we have heeded this call, providing African solutions to the problem of refugees on our continent.”
Last year, Ecobank donated USD 100,000 to UNHCR towards developing livelihoods and education of people who were forced to leave their homes. Some 2,000 refugees like Jacob have been supported on their journey to self-reliance.
Jacob demonstrates resilience and a determination to be a victor, rather than a victim of war. Watch Jacob’s story here.
