Ecobank Foundation signs milestone MoU with African Union

Ecobank Foundation and the African Union promote leadership and development in the African public sector.

Ecobank Foundation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the African Union (AU) Commission on Monday, 12 December 2016, to promote leadership and development in the African public sector.

The agreement will allow Ecobank Foundation to collaborate with the AU Commission on initiatives that contribute to the development and delivery of a Leadership Development Programme. The aim of the initiative is to equip African civil servants with leadership skills, transforming public sector service delivery through performance-driven contracting, and promoting gender equality through procurement.

Speaking at the signing ceremony in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Julie Essiam, CEO of the Ecobank Foundation, said: “Ecobank welcomes the AU’s continued commitment to strengthening capacity building across the continent, as this aligns perfectly with our mission to drive Africa’s transformation.”

In her remarks, AU Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy, H.E. Dr. Elham Mahmoud Ahmed Ibrahim, called the signing “a key milestone in enhancing cooperation between the AU and the Ecobank Foundation for the achievement of the mandate of the AU Commission on capacity building.”
