Ecobank Foundation supported the Kigali Summit

June 23, 2022

We donated US$600,000 to help to eliminate malaria following the disruption to progress during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Kigali Summit on Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) was hosted by Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda, on 23rd June. It represented a vital moment in the fight against malaria and NTDs. The work to eliminate these diseases has stalled, and even reversed, in some countries. This is due to disruptions to essential services and supply chains caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, significant pressure on maintaining sufficient funding, the rapidly increasing population and widespread biological challenges such as insecticide and drug resistance.

During the Summit, we confirmed our US$600,000 contribution to the Zero Malaria Business Leadership Initiative (ZMBLI) to help drive domestic resource mobilisation.
